The bad old days are long gone, and beautiful Beirut is once again the Pearl of the Levant. (Do not believe anyone who gives this title to Smyrna!) If you have decided that business or pleasure requires you to make an extended stay in this glorious metropolitan city, your first step is going to be securing a place to live. You need not be anxious or scared about this process, but a little caution and common sense are called for. Lebanon real estate can be tricky. You need someone to guide you through the process of renting or buying a home. Your ideal guide would be a long-time resident, someone who knows the city intimately. At the same time, though, you should be looking for someone who will treat you fairly and not take advantage of your status as a newcomer. If you a foreigner, your best bet may be to enquire with your country’s expatriate community in Beirut.
