Termites! Arch Enemy of the Wooden Home
Termites are social insects like ants and bees. This means they live in colonies where a queen lays eggs and all the other termites focus on caring for the eggs, gathering food and feeding the queen. Just like ants and bees they come in various forms to build, and defend the nest. Unfortunately termites aren’t nearly as helpful as ants, nor productive as bees. In fact they are universally destructive. Termites feed off of cellulose which is the primary chemical in plant cell walls. This means that they will eat any plant matter and allow the bacteria in their gut to break down the cellulose. Of course termite are the prime enemy of each and every house in the world. Thankfully because they are social insects it’s fairly easy to destroy the nest. Given the proper know-how and expertise you can kill off the queen and the nest will follow.
